At the HKU constituent research group, the mental lives of teachers, we discussed research in relation to teacher cognition, language awareness and teachers' beliefs at lunch time. The group created opportunities for open dialog within and with outside perspectives (Wenger, McDermott & Synder, 2002). One of the invited speakers is Dr. Simon Borg, a leading scholar in the field of teacher cognition. I had read his articles and books. At the group meeting, we discussed his framework and talked about its applications in the Chinese context and possible modifications, which is very enlightening.
At the English Centre, now Centre for Applied English studies, we also have many opportunities to share and develop in the community.
